hey guys, so i may be missing something here, but i have some files i’ve encrypted using 256 bit ASE in disk utility. I make a disk image, select my encryption, enter a password, and then my image is made, i mount it, add my files, then eject the disk image.
I then go to mount it and it just runs like a regular un-encrypted disk image would. i can select files, move them around, and even run them without so much as a admin password, let alone my 20 digit encyrption password. Am i doing this is the wrong order or is this the nature of disk utilities “encryption” and if the latter is the case i fail to see the point of offering an encryption protocol that should take a century to hack open with absolutely no security measures.
thank you in advance.

I have a logitech quickcam SE on my mac pro.
Works great for skype and ichat.
I’m trying to have the speech recognition understand my commands.
When I press the escape key and talk the green bars show the sound coming through but nothing happens.
I went into the calibrate settings and the green bars move when I speak so I know it is hearing something.
I have it properly set up in settings. I have no idea what is wrong.
Does the camera light have to be on to know that the mic is working?

This problem is nn a new 15″ Macbook Pro 2008 Uni-body.
The sound used to work in Vista but now it doesn’t. There’s a red light emanating from the headphone jack so I looked up a bunch of threads on it which told me it was the optical audio being toggled to “on”. The sound card seems to work fine (all drivers installed) while checking the settings in Vista. Even the tests seem to play something but no sound is coming from the internal speakers. When I plug in headphones, there is no sound coming from them either. I have uninstalled the sound card and had vista reinstall it on restart but to no avail.
I’m guessing the optical audio is permanently on now? I have had no luck with finding threads on disabling the optical audio in vista. Jiggling the headphone plug in the jack didn’t work either. Just for clarification, the sound works just great in OSX and no red light problems there.
Anyone have any idea? Thanks for reading!

I’ve been using Time Machine to back up to an external 400GB drive. It’s worked fine for months, but stopped backing up a few days ago.
After each attempted backup, it now gives me an error dialog stating the size of the backup will exceed the amount of space on the external drive. The problem is that a) it vastly overstates the size of the backup (by over 200GB); and b) it vastly understates the available space on the external drive.
I’ve gone so far as to completely erase the external drive, figuring I’d just start the Time Machine deal over from scratch. No dice. It’s still giving me the same trouble.
Any ideas?
Ken
